On my painting trips through western Massachusetts there is a tiny lake in a state park I love to visit. I used to picnic here with my family when I was little. It hasn’t changed at all. its still wild and rustic. It is in a remote area and always quiet after Labor Day. The cottages across the lake are empty and I have the place to myself. I love sitting on the shore in the warm late summer sun painting.
The clouds and birds were flying around the day I painted at Brave Boat Harbor. From where I stood I could see a bit of the ocean beyond the acres of marsh grasses.

Friendship, Maine is one of my favorite towns on the midcoast. There are so many lobster shacks on the harbor it looks like a village on stilts.
